Ƶ beach volleyball team capped off a flawless postseason run with three wins April 19 to claim the AVCA Small College Beach National Championship in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
“This year is a special one for me because of all the adversity we faced in the fall with the hurricanes and missed training time,” said Head Coach Jeff Lamm.
“Having to replace over half the starters from last year, I didn’t know what to expect going into the regular season,” he said. “This group showed up every day to work harder than the last day and it showed, with us going on a 17-match win streak to close out the season.”
The defending champion Spartans overcame early setbacks to edge Concordia University Irvine, 3-2, in the title match and finish the tournament, 7-0. The win was the fifth AVCA small college national title for the Spartans in seven years.
UTampa defeated 2022 national champion Colorado Mesa and Sunshine State Conference rival Palm Beach Atlantic on the way to the final.
"This year was a very special one. Winning a national championship, winning the inaugural SSC and being the first team to achieve a three-peat at UT after all the adversity we faced through the year was amazing,” said Angel Williams, a senior on the team.
